Clifton T. Perkins Psychiatric Hospital

Project Location: 8450 Dorsey Run Rd, Jessup, Maryland
Architectural Firm: STV, Owings Mills, Maryland
Project description: Health Care – In patient
Target: Green Globes NC
GBI Rating: Two Green Globes

The Perkins Psychiatric Hospital (PPHospital) is renovation of the north wing and administration wing at the Clifton T. Perkins psychiatric hospital in Jessup Maryland. The effort of the energy analysis for this project was to provide Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA) regarding the HVAC systems selection and to meet Green Globes for New Construction (Green Globes NC) requirements for major renovations. Climatic Design LLC performed a whole-building energy model simulation, a comprehensive energy analysis, and an assessment of the building systems and configuration for this project. In addition, multiple Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) were modeled to assist the project team in selecting the design decisions towards achieving the project’s sustainability goal.

With the execution of the selected ECMs, the proposed design not only meets Minimum Energy Performance requirement but also qualifies for additional Green Globes points. The facility is approximately 38.5% more energy cost efficient than the ASHRAE 90.1-2010 reference model. Per Path B point distribution of the Green Globes rating system, this equates to seventy six (76) points.
