Climatic Design, LLC prepared a whole-building energy model and preliminary energy analysis for The Avondale. The effort of this energy model was to meet Performance-based compliance of IgCC-2015 and demonstrate zEPI of 43 or less and the required CO₂е pdp for a new multifamily building. Multiple Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) were modeled to identify most suitable design decisions. With the execution of the recommended ECMs, the proposed design would meet Minimum Energy Performance required by IgCC/ASHRAE energy modeling protocol. The facility would be approximately 20% more energy efficient than the ASHRAE 90.1-2016 reference model with zEPI of 41.6. In addition, CO₂ emission of the proposed model is much lower than the baseline reference model.

Annual Energy Consumption by Endues – Proposed Design and Baseline Case

*Site Electricity x 3.28 + Site N-Gas x 1.09

** (zEPI x CO₂ᵉ bbp)/52
Multiplier per IgCC-2013: 52
zEPI = 52 x (Pbp/Bbp)
    Energy Conversion Factor for Electricity Maryland – FRCE: 3.28
                    Fossil Fuel Energy Conversion Factor – Natural Gas: 1.09
                    Fossil Fuel Emission Factor – Natural Gas: 141
     CO₂ᵉ Rate (Kg/KWh) RFC East: 0.543-
CO₂ᵉ bbp = Site Electricity usage x 0.543 + Site Natural Gas usage x 141
                  = 355,573 x 0.543 + 1,214 x 141 = 357,337

***CO₂ᵉ Index = (zEPI x CO₂ᵉbbp)/52
