Climatic Design LLC has performed a whole-building energy model simulation, a comprehensive energy analysis, and an assessment of the building systems and configuration for this project. The intention of this energy analysis was to demonstrate energy performance of the proposed design compared to the ASHRAE 90.1-2007 reference model and to determine most suitable Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) to achieve more LEED points. Simulation results demonstrated that the proposed design will meet the LEED-NC 2009 Minimum Energy Performance requirement. The project is 15.3% more efficient than the ASHRAE 90.1- 2007 Baseline Case, which equates to (2) EAc1 points and complies with the Baltimore City Green Building Standards (BCGBS). In addition, with the execution of the recommended ECMs it is possible to increase the energy saving of the assembly to 28%, which equates to (9) LEED-NC 2009 points.
Based on the simulation results, implementation of following ECMs recommended in in priority order:
- ECM-3: Control interior lighting of all spaces with windows.
- ECM-1: Reduce internal lighting power density by a minimum of 20% from the ASHRAE Standard.
- ECM-2: Install automatic light controls in all activity areas.
